Rotary Clubs urged to plant tree for each member

The 14th Installation Ceremony of Board of Directors of Rotary Club Kohima, Rotary International District-3240 for the session 2017-18 was held on July 22 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima with RS Panesar, Assistant Governor, Zone-IX, RI District-3240 as the installation officer.  

Panesar congratulated and thanked the outgoing team led by President Rosemary Dzüvichü for successful completion of their tenure (2016-17) with many memorable achievements and work done. He also conveyed best wishes to the newly installed officials led by President Z. Tokishe Sema for the year 2017-18.  

“Whether we are building a new playground, a new school, improving sanitation and medical care or training conflict mediators, we are making a difference; this will naturally change lives of the people for the betterment of the community, this is why the Rotary theme for this year is ‘Rotary: making a difference’,” he stated.  

He also conveyed the message of Rotary International President Ian HS Risely, who said that protecting the environment and curtailing climate change are essential to Rotary’s goal of sustainable service. Environment degradation and global climate change are severe threat to very existence of humanity, he said.  

RI President challenged every Rotary Club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members, between the start of the Rotary year on July 1, 2017 and Earth Day on April 22, 2018. With 1.20 million rotarian members around the globe, as much new trees will come up in this Rotary year which will be a very good gift to the earth planet, he emphasized. He also urged the members to look after the environment with great interest, improve gender balance in rotary by inducting more female members, lower the average age of the members by inducting younger members in the age group of around 40 years and to work on the six areas of focus specially literacy and Wins programme.  

The new team of Board of Directors of Rotary Club Kohima for the session 2017-18 comprise of: President Er. Z. Tokishe Sema, Vice President Ase Yhome, Secretary Richard Dzuvichu, Joint Secretary Thiala Chang, Treasurer Temsumenla, Sgt-at-arms Metuo Liezietsu.  

Further, 3 rotarians of Kohima has been inducted as members Rotary International District 3240 – Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü for peace and conflict management, Dr. Neisatuo Mero for oral health and, Arepla Sancho for water and sanitation.
