ROW encroachment along Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane highway with unauthorised construction

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, FEBRUARY 3 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima on Saturday said it has received numerous complaints associated with ROW encroachments along the stretch of Dimapur-Kohima 4 Lane (Package-1) and Dimapur Bypass (Nagaland portion) by means of constructing unauthorized structures like buildings, huts, sand mahals, culvert blockages, damage to medians and occupation of public land which has been acquired through compensation.

In a notice, DC Chümoukedima Abhinav Shivam pointed out that these unlawful activities are punishable offences under relevant sections of ‘National Highway Act’ and ‘The Nagaland Eviction of Persons in Unauthorised Occupation of public Land Act 1971.’ Additionally, these illegal obstructions pose serious threat to public safety, disruption of traffic and damage to road surfaces, it stated.

Therefore, in order to prevent ROW encroachment along the mentioned NH stretches, the DC has informed that obtaining NOC from his office will be compulsory prior to commencement of any kind of construction activity whether for private or commercial purposes. The District Administration will continue to conduct regular verification and initiate necessary action against violators, it added.

The DC has also urged the general public to strictly adhere to this notification and extend all possible cooperation in ensuring that the highways are free from encroachment for the overall safety and benefit of the citizens.
