RPF intensifies drive, seizes ganja worth over Rs 19 lakh

Maligaon, October 6 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its crackdown on smuggling, recovering approximately 196 kg of ganja valued at over Rs 19.69 lakh in a series of operations between September 25 and October 2, an official statement said.

The RPF teams conducted multiple successful drives across various locations, apprehending several individuals involved in smuggling contraband items, it said.

In two separate operations on October 1, a total of 14.1 kg of ganja worth about Rs 1.41 lakh was seized. Personnel at Dimapur Railway Station recovered 10 kg of the contraband, while another 4.1 kg was recovered by the CPDS team of RPF/Alipurduar Junction from Train No. 13174 DN at New Coochbehar Railway Station, according to the statement.

On September 30, the RPF team at Agartala Post recovered 31 kg of unclaimed ganja, valued at approximately Rs 3.10 lakh, from the Agartala station yard.

In a joint operation with the Government Railway Police (GRP) on September 25, the RPF intercepted two women passengers carrying suspicious bags on Train No. 12508 (Silchar–Thiruvananthapuram Central Express) at Badarpur railway station. The bags were found to contain about 26.445 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.64 lakh. The women were apprehended, the statement said.

In all cases, the seized contraband was handed over to the respective GRP units for further legal action.

The RPF of N.F. Railway remains vigilant and committed to its mission of curbing illegal activities, including smuggling and human trafficking, and assists passengers in need, it added.
