RPF-NFR recover contraband worth Rs 167 lakh from different locations

Maligaon, March 24 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway while conducting drives March 18 to 21, recovered contraband items from several different locations amounting to Rs 16.7 lakhs. According to Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Sabyasachi De, the confiscations were conducted at Agartala, Dimapur, Bagdogra, Rangiyaand Kishanganj railway stations. During the drives they recovered ganja weighing a total of 167kgs approximately and apprehended17 persons in this connection.The apprehended persons along with seized items werelater handed over to the respective OC/GRP or local police station for further course of action, the CPRO mentioned.

In an incident on March 20, RPF team of Agartala conducted a routine drive at Agartala railway station. In course of the drive, they detected few suspicious persons with bags. On opening the bags, they found ganja weighed around 48kgs approximately valued near about Rs. 4.80 lakhs. Six persons were apprehended in this connection. Later the apprehended persons along with the recovered ganja were handed over to GRP of Agartala for further course of action. Moreover, in different drives and checks conducted from March 18 to 21, the RPF team recovered 119 kgs of ganja from different trains and stations. Eleven persons were also apprehended during the drives with the recovery of ganja. Later, recovered ganja along with apprehended persons were handed over to concerned department for further legal action.

The CPRO maintained that the NFR were constantly on the vigil towards activities related to smuggling and transportation of contraband items at various railway stations and trains to make the nation drug free.
