RPF-NFR recovered drugs worth over Rs 23 lakh, 5 held 

Guwahati, March 1 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered drugs worth Rs 23.92 lakhs (approx) and apprehended 5 persons from various trains in the recent past. 

As per an official release, the first recovery was made on February 24 when a team of RPF Dimapur apprehended one person on suspicion from 15666 DN from Furkating to Diphu railway station. 

It resulted in the recovery of 20 plastic cases of suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 240 grams and worth around Rs 13.09 lakh, added the release from CPRO, NFR. 

The person was initially detained and handed over at Diphu station to ASI/RPF/Diphu for further proceeding.

Later he was handed over to OC/GRPS/Dimapur along with the seized items and a case was registered under section 22 (c) NDPS Act, it added. 

On February 26, RPF/NFR seized ganja worth Rs 5 lakh (approx) from three different trains.

The first was seizure was made from Agartala-Deogarh Express at Badarpur Station two persons were arrested with ganja weighing about 32 kgs and valued around Rs 3.20 lakh. The duo was handed over to OC/GRP/Badarpur. 

Similarly, one packet ganja weighing about 6 kgs and worth Rs 60 thousand were found from a coach of Agartala -Silchar Express at Badarpur railway station on the same day. 

A team of RPF New Haflong also recovered an unclaimed bag from a coach of Agartala-Bengaluru Humsafar Express on that day and recovered 3 packets of ganja weighing about 12 kgs worth Rs 120 lakh.

On February 27, a team of RPF Lumding along with GRP Lumding conducted a joint checking at Lumding Railway Station recovered small around 38.88 grams (approx), valued at about Rs 5.83 lakh and arrested two person. They were later handed over to OC GRP/Lumding and registered a case under section 21(C) NDPS Act, the release added.
