
Maligaon, March 12 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the NFR recovered about 17 kg of contraband ganja from a train on March 11.
The team comprised of members from the CIB (Crime Investigation Branch) and CPDS (Crime Prevention & Detection Squad) of Rangiya, informed an official release today.
The RPF team began search operation inside the coaches of 15960 Dibrugarh – Howrah Kamrup Express in between Rangiya and Barpeta Road stations while the train was on the move. During the search, 15 small packets were detected from a coach.
These packets were found to be concealed in the roof, just on the top of the door of the coach when the train reached Pathsala station.
Value of the seized items amounted to around Rs 85,000, said the release. All the recovered items were handed over to Inspector of RPF, Barpeta Road on arrival of the train. The seized materials were handed over to in-charge of GRP/Barpeta Road for further necessary actions.
During the year 2019, RPF successfully recovered items worth R. 6.1 crore from various stations within its jurisdiction, the release added.
