RPF-NFR recovers stolen valuables, apprehends six

Maligaon, November 23 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has apprehended six persons allegedly involved in theft of passengers’ belongings during conducting regular checks between November 19 and 20.

Valuables worth approximately Rs 1.65 lakh were recovered during checks at Guwahati and Katihar railway stations, the NFR informed. 

The accused, along with the seized items, were handed over to the respective Government Railway Police (GRP) units for further legal action, it added.

As per the NFR, in one incident on November 20, the RPF at Katihar, jointly with the CPDS team, apprehended two persons and recovered two stolen mobile phones valued at around Rs 40,000. 

On the same day, the RPF in Guwahati, also in coordination with the CPDS team, nabbed one individual with two stolen gold rings worth approximately Rs 80,000.

Earlier, on November 19, the RPF (East) team at Katihar, along with CPDS personnel and GRP, apprehended another person and recovered a stolen mobile phone valued at around Rs 20,000.

According to NFR, during October 2025 alone, RPF teams arrested 19 persons for involvement in theft cases and recovered 20 stolen mobile phones and other items valued at around Rs 2.73 lakh.

All apprehended individuals were subsequently handed over to GRP authorities.

The RPF reiterated its commitment to ensuring passenger security while providing guidance and assistance to rail users. Rail passengers have been urged to dial the toll-free helpline number 139 if they encounter any issues during travel.
