
Guwahati, May 9 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 10 minors and a missing man during its 5-day checking drives at different trains and railway stations under its jurisdiction from May 4-8, an official release informed.
According to the NFR, the checking drives were conducted at different locations in Rangiya, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Dimapur, Dharmanagar and New Haflong stations.
During the drives, the RPF-NFR rescued 10 runaway minors (four girls and six boys) and one missing male person, stated the release from the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Sabyasachi De.
All the rescued persons were later handed over to the respective childline as per norms for safe custody and family members after proper verification, it said.
Meanwhile, the RPF-NFR also arrested two touts involved in illegal selling of railway tickets during May 4-8 period.
In this connection, four tatkal tickets worth Rs. 14,200 were recovered from Garhbanaili station and one tatkal ticket worth Rs 4,260 was recovered from Kishanganj Station, the NFR release informed.
The RPF keeps a close watch on touting activity within its jurisdiction and also remains vigilant for suspected persons involved in human trafficking as well as the movement of children in a suspicious manner, travelling alone, without proper guardian etc, it added.
