RPF personnel arrest 7 for various crimes

Maligaon, August 7 (MExN): Railway Protection Force personnel of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) arrested several persons involved in various illegal activities in railway premises, NFR spokesperson Subhanan Chanda informed on Friday. 

According to the official, on the night of August 6-7, RPF personnel from the RPF Post, New Tinsukia conducted an “ambush check” at New Tinsukia station yard and detected extraction of HSD oil from a stabled engine in the yard. The personnel apprehended three persons and seized 2 numbers of plastic cans, both containing pilfered HSD oil from the stabled engine.

Based on the statement of the arrested persons, RPF team conducted another raid at Sripuria Gaon near LC Gate No. 700 area and managed to arrest the receiver of the stolen diesel and seized about 10 litres of HSD oil, with an estimated value of Rs 4,400 approximately. A case under Section 3a of RP (UP) Act was registered, the press release informed.

In another on August 6, on receipt of intelligence report, RPF team of Alipurduar division boarded train no 02378 DN at New Coochbehar station. During search, they detected a suspicious person namely Netish Biswas, travelling to Sealdah in Coach no - B4 of the train. On checking his bag they found a neatly packed parcel containing about 18 kgs of ganja with an estimated value of Rs 1, 80,000, the release stated.

On August 4, another RPF team of Alipurduar division conducted raid and search on platform no 3 at New Coochbehar station wherein two persons, namely Prashanta Saha and Amar Barman were apprehended for possession of about 13.1 Kgs of ganja, valued at about Rs 1,30,000. One valid railway journey ticket having PNR no-674-2150868 by train no-05956 DN was also found with them, the release stated.

In both the cases, FIR was lodged under NDPS (Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act 1985 and the accused along with materials seized were handed over to OC, GRP, New Coochbehar.
