
Maligaon, April 6 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered contraband items valued at more than Rs 75 lakh and apprehended 18 individuals in March for alleged involvement in smuggling activities. RPF teams also apprehended seven touts during ticketing fraud drives across the zone. A total of 32 railway tickets, worth over Rs 99,000, were seized from their possession, authorities said.
In one notable incident on March 24, RPF personnel at Dimapur railway station detained a suspect during routine checks and seized 10.85 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 2.17 lakh. The individual and the recovered narcotics were handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP) Dimapur for legal proceedings.
Earlier, on March 19, RPF units from New Jalpaiguri, along with Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS) and Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB), conducted a raid at the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) center in Kanki. The operation led to the recovery of six PRS tickets worth around Rs 24,365 and the arrest of one tout. A case was registered under Section 143 of the Railways Act.
