RPF seize contraband

Maligaon, August 19 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have recovered several consignments of contraband items in the month of August. NFR CPRO Subhanan Chanda informed on Wednesday that these items were recovered during regular checks and special drives at stations and trains in the NFR area.

On August 14, during a regular checking of the Guwahati station, Asst Sub Inspector L K Roy along with staff of RPF Post and GRP officials detected 159 packages containing dry tobacco leaves from the Guwahati railway station. Each package weighed about 50 kgs (total 7950 kgs) and approximate value of the recovered tobacco leaves is Rs. 7, 95,000.

The recovered tobacco packages were handed over to GRP/Guwahati. In this regard, a case has been registered on August 14, the CPRO informed.

In another incident on August 17, personnel of RPF Post, Badarpur under Lumding Division, detected two unclaimed hand bags in a coach of the train they were escorting from Agartala to Badarpur. Later they detected that the bags contained about 17 kgs of Ganja. On arrival at Badarpur railway station, the recovered articles were unloaded and kept at RPF Post, Badarpur for further necessary action. Value of the recovered Ganja is approximately Rs 1, 70,000, according to the CPRO.
