RPF seizes contraband goods worth over Rs 23.50 crores

MALIGAON, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its efforts against the transportation of contraband and smuggled goods, recovering items valued at more than Rs 26.48 lakhs from September 1 to September 15, 2024. During this period, nine individuals were apprehended for their alleged involvement in these activities, a press release issued by the CPRO-NFR informed.  

In a notable incident on September 2, the RPF, in conjunction with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Lumding, conducted checks on train number 01666 (Agartala – Rani Kamalapati Express) at Lumding railway station. This operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 19.7 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 3.94 lakhs, as well as 18.10 kgs of ganja, worth about Rs 1.81 lakhs. The arrested individuals and the seized contraband were subsequently handed over to the OC of GRP Lumding for further legal action.

From January to August 2024, the RPF reported the recovery of contraband and smuggled goods totaling over Rs 23.50 crores. During this time, 283 individuals were apprehended for illegally transporting such goods.
