RPF/NFR arrest touts, seize contraband

Maligaon, September 1(MExN):  The Railway Police Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has apprehended touts involved in illegal selling of railway tickets during search and raids conducted within the jurisdiction of NFR.

According to a press release from NFR CPRO Subhanan Chanda, on August 31, a team of RPF Guwahati with the help of local police conducted search in a shop- M/s P M Communication and Service located at Odalbakra, Guwahati. In course of the search, RPF recovered 21 Railway e-tickets generated using user ID for different persons on different dates and different trains. Total value of the recovered e-Tickets is Rs 33,718, the CPRO said. On being asked, the owner, Mrinal Hazra failed to produce any IRCTC authorization certificate and confessed generating the recovered railway e-tickets illegally for his benefit. As such, the recovered Railway e-tickets along with other relevant items have been seized and the owner of the shop has been taken into custody. A case has been registered in this connection.

Earlier, on August 30, based on information and analysis of user id 'vicky0160', a joint team of RPF Dibrugarh, RPF Tinsukia and RPF / Task Force Tinsukia conducted a surprise check in the presence of local police at one shop namely M/s Patel and Sons at Dibrugarh and apprehended a person named Vicky Patel for illegally procuring and selling railway e-tickets. On analysis of email records and storage (11 email IDs were used by the accused) a total number of 48 railway e-tickets of value Rs 1, 09,132 was recovered from his computer. 1 computer and printer with accessories, 2 mobile phones, 1 cheque book of Kotak Mahindra bank, 1 Aadhaar card, and a pan card were seized. A case was registered at RPF Post Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, on August 31, a train escort party detected an unclaimed hand bag in a berth of the Agartala- New Delhi AC suspected to be containing ganja.

On arrival at Badarpur, the escort party unloaded the bag in presence of other on duty staff and brought the same to the parcel office for weight. There were two packages, suspected to be containing about 8 kg ganja and clothes. The value of seized contraband is approximately Rs 80,000, the release informed.
