RPF/NFR recovered ganja worth over Rs 21 lakh

Maligaon, January 22 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered ganja worth Rs 21.30 lakh during last few days. The contrabands were recovered during regular checks in trains and stations across the NFR zone according to a release from the  Chief Public Relations Officer Guneet Kaur.

As per the release, acting on information, officers and staff of RPF Post, New Jalpaiguri and officials of Commercial Department under the supervision of AG Faruque, Assistant Security Commissioner (ASC) of New Jalpaiguri conducted a joint checking at Parcel Office/New Jalpaiguri on January 20. During checking, they recovered two parcel packages which had been booked from New Jalpaiguri to Bhatinda by declaring the consignment as cosmetic items by the consignor. On opening the two packages, 42 packets ganja weighing about 87 kgs worth about Rs 8.70 lakh were found and the items were seized on the spot in the presence of ASC/New Jalpaiguri and other witnesses. In this regard, a complaint has been lodged to IC/GRPS/New Jalpaiguri against the consignor. Later, the seized ganja and relevant documents were handed over to IC/GRP/New Jalpaiguri for further necessary action, the release stated.

In another incident on January 19, RPF of Dimapur conducted checking at Dimapur railway station and recovered 7 packets ganja weighing 9.5 kgs, valued about Rs 95,000. The recovered ganja was handed over to Custom Department, Dimapur for disposal. 

Meanwhile on January 18, RPF of Guwahati, jointly with GRP/Guwahati staff conducted a check in the Agartala – New Delhi Tejas Express at Guwahati railway station during which a total 25 packets ganja, weighing about 55 kgs was found in 2 unclaimed trolley bags and 1 backpack. The recovered ganja, valued at Rs 5.5 lakh approximately, was handed over to OC, GRP, Guwahati for disposal, the release stated. 

On the same day, RPF of Agartala recovered 30 kgs of unclaimed ganja worth Rs 3 lakh at Agartala station and on January 17, RPF of Agartala, while escorting the Tejas Express, recovered 20 kgs of unclaimed ganja worth Rs 2 lakh at Badarpur station, the release stated. Another haul was made on January 16 when the RPF of Agartala conducted checking at Agartala railway station and recovered 3 packets ganja, weighing about 5 kgs and valued at Rs 50,000, as per the release. 

Further, on January 15, RPF team of Agartala recovered 6.5 kgs of unclaimed ganja, worth Rs 65,000 while conducting checking in the Agartala – Bangalore Cant Humsafar Express at Agartala railway station. The recovered items were later handed over to OC, GRP of concerned stations for further necessary action, it said.
