RPF/NFR recovers contraband worth Rs 12 cr

389 cases, 111 arrest from January 1 to February 2

Maligaon, February 6 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast frontier Railway recovered smuggled and contraband goods worth approximately Rs 12 crore from January 1 to February 2.

The smuggled and contrabands goods were recovered during regular checks in trains and stations over the NFR zone and detected 389 such cases leading to 111 arrests in this connection, according to a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De.

On February 4, an RPF team of Agartala conducted checking at Agartala railway station and recovered three packets of unclaimed ganja weighing about 3.5 kg with an estimated worth of Rs 35,000. Later, the recovered ganja packets were handed over to OC, GRP, Agartala for further necessary action, the release stated.

On the same day, the CPDS team of Alipurduar conducted a check on the Kanchanjunga Express at New Coochbehar railway station. During checking, the team recovered one unclaimed plastic hand bag containing 22 bottles of liquor in a coach which were kept concealed under a berth of the train. Later, the recovered liquor worth about Rs 1,740 was handed over to OC, GRPS, New Coochbehar for further necessary action, it said.

Meanwhile, on February 2, the CPDS team of Katihar conducted checking on the Radhikapur – Katihar passenger special and recovered 115 bottles of unclaimed liquor worth Rs 12,400. The recovered liquor was brought to RPF Post, Katihar (East) and handed over to the Excise Department, Katihar for disposal. Similarly, RPF and Meri Saheli team of Guwahati conducted joint checking on the Avadh Assam Express at Guwahati railway station during which 129 unclaimed bottles of liquor worth about Rs 35,220 were recovered and handed over to the Excise Department, Guwahati for disposal.
