RRC-NEISSR & City Barn host awareness on Catch Them Young

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 31 (MExN): The Red Ribbon Club of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) joined forces with City Barn Health Centre to host an impactful awareness program today, titled “Catch Them Young—Beware, Reach on Time, Say No to Unsafe Sex Behaviour.” The event was held at Peace Centre Bishop Abraham Memorial Hall.

A press release issued by the NEISSR news desk informed that the primary goal of the program was to educate young people about the risks associated with unsafe sexual practices and to promote safe sex as a preventive measure against HIV transmission. The initiative aimed to foster proactive health behaviours within the student community.

Resource person Kuputoli delivered an insightful talk on HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the importance of setting personal health goals, recognizing HIV/AIDS symptoms, and the use of condoms for prevention. Awomi highlighted a cultural reluctance to use condoms in Nagaland and discussed the critical role of City Barn in providing HIV testing and counselling services.

Shukhrieno Luho, Centre Coordinator of City Barn Dimapur, provided an overview of the organization’s innovative project in collaboration with NSACS and NACO. 

She said the idea of this project is to commit and get connected with all the young people below the age of 24 who are concerned about their health and well being. The core objective is to provide comprehensive information regarding about their centre and bestowed counselling service to young people. The initiative, currently being piloted in Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha and Tuensang also features an anonymous Q&A section for those seeking advice discreetly.

The event was moderated by Tenglitsula (BSW SEM 3), with an invocation by Visavonuo Rhetso (MSW 1st Semester). The welcome address was given by Ng Souvahne Lishe (BSW SEM 5), followed by musical performances by Shome and Lilo Chishi (MSW 1st Semester). Dr Toli H. Kiba, Assistant Professor and Nodal Officer of RRC, NEISSR, introduced the resource persons and guests.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from D Adahrii, President of Red Ribbon Club NEISSR, who expressed appreciation for the participation and contributions of everyone involved.
