Rs. 4 Cr funds siphoned: Cong

Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): The opposition Congress today surfaced with more allegations of corruption “elephant stomach” NPF-led DAN government was alleged to be indulging in. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee stated that this time, more than Rs. 4 crore released again from the Civil Deposit to clear pending bills and town maintenance of Dimapur in May 2010, were not utilized.

The NPCC has named the Chief Minister (who also holds the portfolio of Finance), Minister PWD (R&B) and the E.Er. of PWD (R&B) of Dimapur division and has demanded a response from them. The NPCC has said that it will not hesitate to produce evidence and ‘eye-witness’ if necessary in due course of time, in support of the allegation. The NPCC statement was appended by general secretary Aheto V Yepthomi.

“This time, the amount of Rs. 450.00 lakhs (Rupees Four Crores Fifty Lakhs) and above, which was released again from the Civil Deposit for the clearance of Pending bills and town maintenance to the Dimapur division in the month of May 2010, were not specifically utilized for its purpose,” stated the NPCC in a statement today.

The Congress said the latest filching of the NPF-DAN comes in the wake of siphoning off Rs. 570 Lakhs (five crore seventy Lakh) which was released to the department of PWD (R&B) Dimapur division alone in the month of November 2009. It was meant for clearance of “NCSU pending bills” for Dimapur and “their thirst for money has once again proved which shows their concern for the welfare of the peoples,” the NPCC stated.

In regard to the latest instance, the Congress said that out of the total bill amount, only “twenty percent (200-10) each was paid to the concern contractor/supplier, who were compelled to signed, taking undue advantages of their economical problems, and the remaining eighty percent were adjusted, saying that the deducted amount is meant for Chief Minister, Minister (R&B), Finance Commissioner, Additional Finance Commissioner, Commissioner Secretary (R&B) and Chief Engineer PWD (R&B).”

“The money was withdrawn and transported from the bank by cashier in his vehicle Registration. No. NL07 C-0221 (Tata Indigo) and instead distributed at the residence of accountant at PWD colony Dimapur, on 24th & 25th May 2010, not withstanding the CANSSEA order for second phase of agitation in the form of Mass Casual Leave during 24111 to 26111 May 2010.”

“…what basis eighty percent were deducted from the contractor’s/ supplier’s hard earned money? Under whose command/order 80% were deducted by the concern engineer? If not so, we expect that your esteemed authority will give satisfactory answer to the above queries, so as to let the true values of democracy prevail and to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of the public office.”
