Rs 561.92 lakhs for rural Nagaland

DIMAPUR: A total of Rs 561.92 lakhs has been released to Nagaland by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Out of this, Rs 326.46 lakhs has been released as the first instalment to the eight districts of Nagaland (Kohima- Rs 45.54 lakhs, Mokokchung- Rs 45.75 lakhs, Tuensang- Rs 59.35 lakhs, Mon- Rs 46.03 lakhs, Wokha- Rs 34.62 lakhs, Phek- Rs 39.10 lakhs, Zunheboto- Rs 37.93 lakhs and Dimapur- Rs 18.32 lakhs) as central assistance for implementation of the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) during the current financial year. 

A release issued by the Press Information Bureau stated that the grant is towards plan expenditure and will be utilized for approved items of works subject to the conditions laid down in the SGRY guidelines and that no deviation from the provisions of the guidelines is permissible. 

The objectives of the programme are to provide additional wage employment in the rural areas as also food security, alongside the creation of durable community, social and economic infrastructure in the rural areas. 

Further, the Centre has released Rs 235.46 lakhs to the Nagaland Government towards the first instalment against provisional additional allocation of Rs 270.91 lakhs during 2005-2006 under the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission- Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), for execution/completion of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to cover Not Covered/Partially Covered habitations and for improvement of drinking water quality under the Centrally Sponsored ARSWP as per the priorities indicated in the guidelines for implementation of Rural Water Supply Program.
