A three day Platinum Jubilee cum 41st General Conference of the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) concluded today at RSA Ground, Tseminyu under the theme “Beyond mediocrity: Reviving virtues, unleashing creativity.”

Gracing the general conference as the special guest, Nagaland Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, Advisor R Khing recalled his student days when the school infrastructure were thatched with no benches and a dusty classroom, wherein they learnt Rengma vernaculars and the teachers were mostly class 2 passed. The present ground, he said, used to be a pond where they would enjoy the sounds of croaking frogs during summer.

Khing said that they struggled to learn but somehow many students became well known individuals despite poor situation. “But now, all facilities are available,” he said and subscribed the present society as “privileged generation.” He encouraged the students to cultivate the art of hard work and perseverance to achieve greater heights.

Also stressing on the importance of skill development, he said that “in today's generation, students study the prescribed syllabus but during those days, skill education was taught and many today live a successful life as they value the art of living.” Further, Khing encouraged the students to follow the right path and to avoid all distractions to be a good citizen and a successful person.
 
Leadership: Responsibilities & challenges
Talking on the topic ‘Leadership: Responsibilities & challenges’ as conference speaker, Dr GT Thong, Professor, Nagaland University stated that the government has not been doing exceptionally good and many students are force to drop their studies due to financial reasons. He questioned whether the youth ready to take the challenge today.

Dr Thong maintained that team work and sharing of responsibility, regardless of position and status can bring a positive change in the society. “We see failure due to lack of responsibility and consciousness,” he said and stressed that the present society with too much of fund drive was frustrating and felt that  one must look for self reliant activities to sustain and stand at its own feet to be at the advancing society.

He said that that leadership need good decision at the right situation, adding that effective leadership must be open minded towards discussion and criticism. “Leaders cannot be a liability to the society due to petty ego issues as it affects the growth of the society,” he said.
 
‘Have strong will power and determination’
Gracing the valedictory session as the special guest, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Kegwayhun Tep urged upon the students stay focus to their goals.

He also challenged the students to have strong will power and determination to excel in life.

Further, he also encouraged the students to strive to bring about a society free from the errors of the past and the present, a culture of excellence- free from the shackles of corruption and ism.

Earlier, Chakhesang Students’ Union and All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) shared greetings.

The morning session was chaired by R.N. David Magh, member organizing committee while vote of thanks was proposed by Alfred Kath, president, Ehunnu & Yikhanu Students' Union.
 
Ajo Tsela is RSU new president
RSU chief election commissioner Zentilo Tep has announced the new team of RSU for the tenure 2022-2024. The new team will be led by Ajo Tsela as president. Others in the executive council included; vice president-Gwakenye Kesen, finance secretary-Pechesin Bukh, education & statistics secretary-Alo Tep, social & cultural secretary-Albert Himb and Kenyüzenlo Khing as games & sports secretary.

The valedictory function was chaired by Meshenlo Kath, member organizing committee while vote of thanks was proposed by Shyeruhun Tep, president Tseminyu Students’ Union. The programme was followed by “final curtain” with special appearance by Sunep Lemtur.
