RTA Khm to penalise overloaded goods vehicles

DIMAPUR, JULY 8 (MExN): The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Kohima has informed that it would conduct routine checking for overloaded goods laden vehicles along the Kohima-Dimapur highway.

This was decided during a meeting on July 6 in view of the frequent breakdowns of goods laden vehicles along the said highway causing jams and adding to the woes of travelers.

The RTA cautioned that violators will be penalized under the MV Act for driving vehicle exceeding permissible weight with fine of Rs 20,000 and additional amount of Rs 2,000 per ton of excess load, together with liability to pay charges for off-loading of the excess load. Further, such motor vehicle shall not be allowed to move before excess load is removed or is caused or allowed to be removed by the person in control of such motor vehicle.

The house also decided to request Oasis Ltd and Gayatri Ltd to allow RTA Kohima to use their weight bridge during such activities conducted by the Police and monthly report to be submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Kohima to RTA. 

The RTA further decided to issue a public notice that Enforcement officials of RTO will conduct routine checking of compliance and penalize as per relevant MV Act.

It meanwhile informed the ANTA/ 2-Wheeler Taxi Association & CBOUK to submit a detailed list of vehicle registration numbers with the names of the drivers and functioning mobile numbers and this list has to be submitted to RTO on or before July 30.

The RTA also informed the public that no application for a Two-Wheeler taxi/ Local taxi/ Regional taxi will be entertained till further notice.

Earlier during the meeting, the RTA Kohima decided to direct the City Bus Operators' Union Kohima (CBOUK) to comply with the government's notification concerning retrofitting the buses, thereby, making them accessible for persons with disabilities. 

The retrofitting shall be done only at the following centres approved by the Government:  Bimal Automobile, Dimapur, and BhaiBhai Engineering Works, Kohima.

The RTA also decided to direct Urban Development Officer (UDO) Kohima and Administrator Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) to make necessary facilities for Persons with Disabilities at bus-stops, parking spaces, and ticketing counters confirming the accessibility standards.

The Kohima SP was requested to submit quarterly accident data for onward submission to Transport Commissioner for further necessary reports.

Taking into account the management and maintenance of town/ urban roads being handed over to the Urban Department, the RTA Kohima decided to propose to the government to include UDO as one of the members of the RTA.

The RTA also discussed the appeal made by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to be excluded from the purview of entry timing for FCI trucks. However, because of the traffic congestion during peak hours, the appeal was declined.
