
TSEMINYU, OCTOBER 12 (MExN): The Right to Information (RTI) Week 2025 was observed at the Town Hall here on Tuesday, marking the first such programme organised in the district. The event was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch, who also delivered the welcome address.
Expressing gratitude for the observance of RTI Week in Tseminyu, Woch said the initiative was a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the district.
In his keynote address, Chief Information Commissioner Kevisa Kense, IAS (Retd), highlighted that 5th October is observed annually as RTI Day and explained the objectives of the Right to Information Act, 2005. He said the Act aims to empower citizens by ensuring access to information, protecting them, and redressing grievances. He urged government departments to provide information within the stipulated timeframe and appealed to officials not to harass applicants. Kense also requested NGOs to use RTI responsibly and cautioned against providing misleading information.
State Information Commissioner Nosazol Charles delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on RTI and interacted with participants, which included students, government officials, Village Council Chairpersons (VCC), Village Development Board (VDB) members, and NGOs. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by State Information Commissioner T. Kekongchim Yimkiung.
