Kohima, October 12 (DIPR): The Right To Information (RTI) week was celebrated with NGOs and CSOs on the theme ‘RTI Act and Role of NGOs and CSOs on October 12 at Kohima DC's conference Hall.
Delivering the keynote address on the significance of RTI, the First Appellate Authority and Deputy Commissioner Kohima Rovilatuo Mor, IAS stated that with the enforcement of RTI Act, lot of information and document pertaining to the functions and activities of the various departments have been improved. He also apprised the PIOs and APIOs to ensure utmost importance in furnishing all the information required by the applicants and asked them to reply timely. He appealed to all the NGOs to render their cooperation and active participation and to sensitize the RTI in their respective public domain for the benefit of the citizens.
The programme was chaired by ADC Lithrongla Tongpi, Thejavizo Nakro, EAC (Sadar) Kohima, Rokozelie Usou, DPO DRDA, Kohima and Nchungbemo Lotha PO, ADC (Planning) Kohima presented the Power point presentation on RTI Act as a Resource person. Staff presentations were presented by Chiephobozou, Tseminyu, Jakhama, Sechu -zubza and Botsa. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Kethosituo Sekhose, APIO and SDO (Sadar), Kohima. Documentary film on RTI was screened by DPRO Kohima.
Dimapur: Celebration of Right to Information Week under the theme ‘RTI and role of NGOs and CSOs’ was observed in Dimapur district on October 12 in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner Dimapur.
Addressing the gathering ADC Dimapur, Elizabeth in her brief speech described RTI as citizens empowerment where all doubts and clarifications could be availed by the public. She further observed that through RTI, transparency and accountability in the government functioning is maintained. ADC also informed about the RTI cells existing in all the departments and emphasised on the role of NGOs and CBOs. She further advised all concern not to misuse RTI but to avail the opportunity for benefit of the society.
SDO Civil, James Swu, said that although RTI Act passed by the Parliament happens to be one of the smallest Act with 6 chapters and 31 sections yet, Government has been giving much importance as this Act is the most people friendly. Motive of RTI is to keep the policies of the Government transparent in the eyes of the public. Programme for Celebration of RTI week was attended by NGOs, CSOs and government officials.
