
Zunheboto, October 16 (DIPR): Right to Information (RTI) week was celebrated in Zunheboto, Mokokchung, and Mon under the theme ‘RTI and role of NGOs & CSOs’. The event was observed in Zunheboto and Mokokchung on October 15 and Mon on October 14.
Zunheboto: At the DC's conference hall in Zunheboto, APO, DRDA, RTI-TOT Zunheboto, Obed Achumi spoke on the significance of RTI Act as the resource person. He said that with the enforcement of RTI, information and documents pertaining to various departments have improved. On the role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Obed stated the CSOs can take up education and awareness programmes on RTI. CSOs can also promote good governance and social equity by accessing information, he added. Obed also spoke on the role and responsibility of PIOs and APIOs. EAC, HQ, Kemciyile, who chaired the programme, asked the gathering to make use of RTI but cautioned it should not be misused for selfish motives. She exhorted that RTI is a tool to bring transparency and accountability and should be used efficiently. The program was attended by GBs, Village Council Chairmen, VDB Secretaries and public leaders. EAC Probationers Sakuchingmak and Wiridin Zeliang also attended the function.
Mokokchung: In Mokokchung, chairmen from all the 18 wards and representatives from Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and AKM attended the programme held at the conference hall of ADC (Planning). SDO (C) Mokokchung HQ, Sachin Jaiswal IAS, delivering the keynote address said that RTI is a strong weapon for all the people of the nation to question so that the answer can throw light into the matter. He said RTI is a landmark achievement as it has helped advance good governance and strengthen democracy in India. He also encouraged the participants that as torch bearers of the town and the community, they must update themselves and disseminate the knowledge on RTI to the lower section of the people, especially to those in the villages so that their rights are protected. The programme was chaired by Assistant Commissioner, Mekola Chaitanya Prasad IAS (P), while PowerPoint presentation on RTI Act was given by EAC Mokokchung HQ, R. Daniel Angami and EAC Chuchuyimlang, Meyazungba Jamir.
Mon: The programme at Mon HQ had Rohbi Sangtam, EAC (Probationer) and Tumben P. Tsanglao, EAC (Probationer) as the resource persons. Rohbi Sangtam spoke on Right to Information and also gave an overview of the Act passed by Indian Parliament on June 5, 2005. He explained in detail about RTI and its power to the NGO and CSO leaders. Tumben P. Tsanglao also presented a PowerPoint and spoke on appeal process of RTI and obligation of public authorities and the role of NGO and CSO leaders. There was also an interaction hour among the NGO and CSO leaders and resource persons. The programme was attended by leaders of KU, KNSK, KSU and all ward presidents and GBs. Relise Sangtam, EAC Mon chaired the programme.
