
Dimapur, April 3 (MExN): The land resources development department, Government of Nagaland has taken up rubber plantation project during 2010-2011 with phase – III in Lamhai and Dungki village.
The Lamhai and Dungki village watershed committee stated in a press release that the project covered 450 hectares of land through 240 marginalized rubber growers and within two years of intervention, 60% of the total area is successfully panted with rubber plants. The department provided 72,600 rubber stumps and readymade poly bag plants as well. It developed four water harvesting structures for the project and three rubber project roads through three different ranges. The department also encouraged and introduced economic chullah which is very safe, economic and sustainable, especially for the poor marginalized rural community. Six self help groups were formed with the intention to encourages groups activities and furthering common saving, by maintaining relationship with government and financial institutions.
Rubber Committee Convenor Ipokleu Heikieraing stated in the press release that all these rural development initiatives are highly valued and respected and that the villages’ watershed committees invites the LRD department to pay more interactive field visits and trainings in near future.
