The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), in collaboration with the District Administration and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), organised a marathon under the theme “Run to Rise: Together Against Gender-Based Violence” on November 25. The race began at IOC, South Point, and concluded at the Public Ground, Zunheboto.

Before flagging off the event, Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Dharam Raj, IAS, highlighted the importance of unity in addressing social issues. He stated that the initiative was organised to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and to launch the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

The programme aimed to raise awareness on eliminating violence against women and to encourage greater public participation in the global campaign.

Gender Specialist Kiyepu Yeptho noted that although the programme was organised within a short time frame, the team was unable to reach out to everyone. “Our main goal in organising this marathon is to eliminate gender-based and domestic violence. This event reflects our collective stand against such acts,” he said.

He added that while there can be only one winner, the participation of the community is what truly matters.

In the male category, Pukivi Yepthomi secured first position, followed by Abebo Awomi in second place. In the female category, Bovitoli G Assumi clinched the first position, with Liti K. Achumi finishing second.
