RUSA 1.0 review meeting held at Kohima

Kohima, October 1 (MExN): A review meeting for implementation of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) for the states of Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram was held on September 27 at Kohima.  

Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along in his speech acknowledged the officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Government of India for the concern and support rendered to Northeast states particularly to Nagaland.  

He made an earnest appeal to the three NE states not to allow the difficulties, situations, traditions or distances to undermine the human strength. He also expressed his gratitude to MHRD, GOI for granting the 2nd Multi-Professional College (Law, Management & Music Technology) to the Nagaland under RUSA 2.0.  

The Minister also shared his vision of making Nagaland State an educational hub by upgrading the existing colleges, providing the required facilities and by establishing more professional colleges where more courses can be offered.  

Ishita Roy, IAS, Joint Secretary (Higher Education) MHRD & National Mission Director RUSA, GOI who chaired the meeting announced that MHRD, GOI has already approved another Professional College to Nagaland under RUSA 2.0 and encouraged the State Government to introduce Multi-Disciplinary subjects to cater to the need of the students.  

She appreciated the state of Nagaland for the successful implementation of RUSA Phase 1.0.  

Roy, during the interaction with the Principals of 15 Government Colleges discussed the difficulty, challenges and issues faced by the colleges for NAAC accreditation.  

She reiterated that accreditation by NAAC is a parameter mandated by UGC. Hence, Higher Education Institutions should join the accreditation to get accredited by NAAC. She requested the colleges to submit their Institutional Action plan for NAAC.  

B Venkatesh Kumar, Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) who co-chaired the meeting in his speech emphasized on qualified faculty to improve the quality of higher education and the need to encourage entrepreneurship in colleges.  

Presentations on the progress of implementation of RUSA 1.0 from the three states were also made.  

Anungla Aier, Additional Director HE, in her speech expressed the importance of maintaining qualified teachers in colleges and also reiterated the UGC mandate of NAAC Accreditation. The opening address was delivered by Dellirose M Sakhrie, Commissioner & Secretary H&TE.  

Earlier, the first Professional Engineering College for Nagaland was approved in the month of September.
