Kiphire, November 14 (MExN): Launching of district level SAANs campaign and observance of World Pneumonia Day was held at District Hospital, Kiphire on November 14. The campaign was launched by Dr R Chubala Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Kiphire, stated a press release.
Speaking about the significance of the day, Dr R Chubala Aier said World Pneumonia Day was started in 2009 to spread awareness and educate people to combat Pneumonia. She said Pneumonia is the single, biggest infectious killer of children below five years and elders above sixty years.
The CMO further mentioned that children living in areas with low vaccination rates, malnutrition, and in homes that use polluting fuels for cooking and heating are particularly vulnerable to pneumonia.
Stating that Pneumonia is both preventable and treatable, Dr Chubala Aier requested everyone present, not only healthcare workers, to give efforts to educate families and communities and spread awareness about this deadly disease.
Meanwhile, regarding the SAANS campaign, the CMO said it has been launched to accelerate awareness to prevent deaths from Pneumonia. She stated the campaign would be carried out in the district extensively.
“As we have launched SAANs campaign today, we all have roles to play, so I request everyone to actively participate in this campaign so that it will be a success in our district,” the CMO appealed.
It is to be noted that after the launching programme, a clinical session was conducted, during which, orientation to healthcare workers on SAANs was presented by Dr. Kolhitso Khalo, Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
Changtongya: Block level SUMAN and SAANS was launched at Community Health Centre Changtongya on November 12 by Rorheu Peseyie SDO (C) Changtongya. Speaking on the launching programme, he called upon all to disseminate the schemes, to the general public to avail the facilities at the hospital for their benefit. He also encouraged the healthcare workers to rededicate themselves to ensure better healthcare systems.
A DIPR report stated that delivering the keynote address Dr Imtijungshi Aier SMO CHC Changtongya said that the objective of SUMAN is to achieve zero maternal and infant death through quality care. He then highlighted the entitlement scheme and services that can be availed through the scheme at the hospital. He said world Pneumonia Day is been observed today and the SAANS Campaign emphasized the protection, prevention, and treatment of PPT to save a child from Pneumonia. He also delivered the welcome speech.
The launching programme was attended by church leaders, the ward chairman, the watsu unit Changtongya, the CDPO staff, Chairman Health Community Management Committee, and staff from CHC.
The programme was chaired by Dr Limasashi MO (AYUSH) CHC Changtongya, he also delivered the vote of thanks.
Noklak: District Health Society under Chief Medical Officer Noklak launched the Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Successfully (SAANS) on November 12 by Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Hiazu Meru, and Dr Victor NC CMO in charge at CMO Conference Hall, Noklak, stated a DIPR report.
In his brief speech, DC Noklak stressed that Health is a major public issue; all convergent departments should actively participate in creating health awareness at the grassroots level. He also acknowledged the roles played by NGOs and CBOs and further spoke about the importance of making the church another platform to reach out to the general public to develop health-seeking behaviour, particularly for children under five to reduce the infant mortality rate in the district.
The programme was attended by the Church leaders, NGO leaders, Convergent departments, and Medical staff from District Hospital and DPMU staff Noklak.
