It was hosted at the Prodigals’ Home in Fellowship colony.
Torchit is an Indian start-up company focused on empowering the lives of individuals with disabilities through technology-based assistive devices solutions in partnership with corporate entities and PSUs. According to the start-up, it received funding from the IRCTC to distribute 2,000 Saarthi devices (smart walking cane) in the North Eastern Region. At the event on Thursday, 50 visually impaired persons received the Saarthi devices.
President of the NSDF, Fatima Vikeguno Kera, encouraged the differently-abled persons to “embrace our disability.” “Now that I have accepted, it has opened up the world to me,” she said, while stating that hiding disability only serves to further conceal the needs of the differently-abled.
