Members of the Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu and the Khonoma Baptist Church during a ‘Friendship Fellowship’ held at Khonoma on May 25.
Kohima, May 27 (MExN): With the objective of renewing relationships, educating the younger generation on shared history, and strengthening spiritual legacy and bonds, the Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SABAK) and the Khonoma Baptist Church (KBC) observed a ‘Friendship Fellowship’ on May 25.
At the event held at KBC, Rev Dr Hotokhu P Zhimomi, Secretary of Mission & Evangelism, SABAK, shared the history and significance of Khonoma citizens who preached the gospel in Sumi Aphuyemi areas.
He made special mention of Rev Megoseiso Savino and Janikho, who came to Chishilimi village in 1945 and served at the Sub-Mission Centre, elaborating on the shared history between the villages in the Pughoboto area and Khonoma village.

Y Vikheho Swu, former minister and grandson of Kushe—one of the first Christian converts from Chishilimi village—also acknowledged the contributions of Khonoma citizens in the Pughoboto area and expressed gratitude to them on behalf of the Sumi Aphuyemi people.
He expressed hope and offered prayers for deeper understanding and collaboration between the citizens of Aphuyemi and Khonoma.
Nikato Swu, GB from Ighanumi village and a son-in-law of Khonoma, also spoke on the importance of strengthening and reinvigorating the relationship between the two communities.
The pastor of Chishilimi Baptist Church, Tokishe Swu, along with the Senior Pastor, Pastor, and Deacons of KBC, also spoke during the service.
During the fellowship, Pughoboto Town Baptist Church presented a song, while SABAK and KBC exchanged gifts as tokens of appreciation and respect.
Earlier in May, SABAK hosted Khedi Baptist Church for a similar combined fellowship at the SABAK Mission Centre Chapel Hall in Pughoboto.
According to a press release, the Rev Seliezhu Memorial Hall is also being constructed as a joint venture by Khedi Baptist Church and SABAK in preparation for 125 years of Sumi Christianity, which will be celebrated in 2029.
