Longleng, March 6 (DIPR): The 5th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on March 6.
Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam, who was the chief guest, asserted that with change of time and climatic condition of nature, the scientists and researchers too have been putting an effort to replace the traditional method of farming with new scientific method suitable to farmers to promote livelihood and boost rural economy.
Therefore, he appealed to the farmers to constantly update their skills in modern system of farming to promote their income.
The DC further exhorted the farmers not to avoid training, seminar and demonstration imparted by the departments, but to avail the opportunity provided by KVK and push forward for healthy production. At the same time, he urged the KVK scientists and researchers to provide high yielding seeds suitable to soil and climatic condition of the region with market avenue so that the hard earned labours and production of the farmers do not go in vain.
Expecting mass participation of farmers and Agri & Allied sectors in the near future, John Tsulise also stressed on amicable relationship between the farmers and the department concerned for maximum benefit of the farmers. He lauded the efforts of the KVK team and assured to provide all possible assistance and support from the district administration to promote the welfare of the farmers.
Meanwhile, Dr. DJ Rajkowa, Joint Director, ICAR, Nagaland Centre informed the farmers that the department has been trying their best to provide best service to the farmers since its inception in the district. The farmers of Longleng, he said, have been responding faithfully and exposed to different parts of the nation and awarded for their good work. He expected more participation from the farmers and Agri & Allied department to improve agriculture for livelihood. Income of farmers, Dr. Rajkowa added, cannot be doubled as envisaged by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi without participation and coordination of farmers and departments.
In order to promote double income of farmers, he urged the team KVK to train the farmers properly with latest technology and to adopt integrated farming system for large scale production and to focus on agriculture with different aspects. He asserted that SAC meeting was a platform created for farmers where they can clarify their doubts and discuss their problems with the KVK scientists and find solution to the farming problems. The ICAR Joint Director further informed that construction of new KVK office for Longleng has been approved by the department.
Dr. Azeze Seyie, Scientist (Species, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Nagaland Centre, Medziphema in her speech lauded the team KVK for their success stories and achievement towards development of farmers. She informed that research was done based on the reports of the Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) and Scientists from different fields. She felt the need for more participation and consolidated efforts of the Agri & Allied department to do more research and find solution to farming problems. Dr. Seyie further urged the farmers gathered to disseminate the information, skills and knowledge learned from the resource persons back to their community for mass awareness and healthy production.
Presentations of Progress Report (2017-18) and Action Plan were given by Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy) and Dr. KL Meena, Senior Scientist & Head respectively.
Earlier, Dr. Lily Ngullie, SMS (A/Sc) presented keynote address on the SAC meeting and its importance to the farmers. The meeting, conducted by Thungchano S. Ezung, Programme Assistant (H/Sc), KVK Longleng, concluded with interaction and discussion.
