
Phek, August 14 (MExN): One day seminar on the theme ‘Safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage’ was held at Phek Government College on August 12. The seminar was organized and sponsored by PGC in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Nagaland Chapter with Sentila T. Yanger, Convenor, INTACH Nagaland Chapter as the resource person.
The main purpose of the seminar was to create awareness of safeguarding our cultural heritage through identification and documentation. It is the responsible of every individual to recognize and celebrate Intangible cultural heritage and exploring the potentials for sustainable community development stated Sentila T. Yanger. She also reminded the participants to identify undocumented knowledge to promote tourism and empower communities.
Chief guest, DC Phek, Kovi Meyase in his speech said that in the fast changing world we should render our best effort to preserve and practice our culture and tradition. Phek district, in particular, is in a traditional period to retrospect to revive its dignity and integrity, he said. He also said that with the influence and impact of information technology we are at risk in losing our identity. Cultural traditions and the modern western culture should be co-related, he further added.
