Sakhabama Students Union celebrates Golden Jubilee

Sakhabama Students Union (SSU) celebrated its golden jubilee on December 26 at Sakhabama Baptist Church under the theme “Fostering Robust Future.”


The guest speaker, Keyiekhru Rhutso, Principal, Government Polytechnic, Kohima elaborating on the jubilee theme said that it is a mission statement of the union's motto "To fight darkness." He called upon the students to invest in the 'present', make decisions in choosing the right career and pursue it wholeheartedly.


Pointing that our people are too modest and reluctant to talk about our dreams, Rhutso underscored the need to open up, change our attitude and mindset.


Sharing his concerns for fostering both the student body and students in general, he suggested on coming up with mentorship programme and study groups in the village.


He further advised them to choose right career and added that all course are equally important and good given the local importance and need for expertise.


To the parents, Rhutso recollected on how their choices pressured upon their children have suppressed the interest children. He therefore asked the parents to study their children and nurture them to their best interest.


Also giving tips and tricks on civil service examinations, he said the task require perseverance and encouraged them not to give up and said "Failure is a blessing in disguise."


The speaker further raised a pertinent concern on whether we need to start questioning on reservation policies inherently wide and without any time frame.


President, SSA, Er Thejangulie Yongo delivering the Presidential note opined that "Jubilee is a bold declaration of confidence in our readiness, for a movement inspired by progressive and transformative ideas and the shared ambition to create a society which reflects our diversity as well as our unity as one" while thanking the fore-bears for cosseting and nurturing the union till date.


He added that the theme “Fostering Robust Future” is to recuperate the dying Sakhabama Students’ Union and use it as the vehicle to bring promotion, competitiveness, peace and unity within Sakhabama students and Sakhabama as a whole.


Seyievonuo Y Chielie who was speaking for the closing session on the topic "The impact of one" emphasised on the need to be successful to impact someone. She advised the students to possess the qualities of grit as a sustainable goal.


Citing an instance, she said "An eagle renews its strength after 40 years." In this line, she exhorted the conglomerate to put faith in God.


During the unvieling of monolith and hoisting of flag, Puleto, Convenor, Monolith Committee chaired the programme and Methazel Kezo, St. Pastor Sakhabama Baptist Church prayed for the event.


The programme was also graced in the presence of officials from Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Angami Students' Union (ASU), Southern Angami Students' Union (SASU), and Southern Angami villages student bodies.
