Nagaland Power & Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye on Thursday unveiled the platinum jubilee monolith of the Sümi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Küqhakulu (SAKK) at Pughoboto town, in the presence of Dr Sukhato A Sema, MLA of 13th Pughoboto A/C. The monolith was dedicated by Rev Dr Kiyeto G Sema, Senior Pastor, SABC Kohima.
The monument commemorates 75 years of the Sümi Aphuyemi students’ movement, marking its inception in 1951 and the revival phase of 1962–63 that strengthened the organisation’s institutional foundation. It also builds on earlier milestones, including the Golden Jubilee in 2013, symbolising the unity, endurance and aspirations of SAKK across generations.
Former SAKK president Vixepu Swu said the jubilee was not merely a celebration of years but a recognition of the courage, vision and sacrifices of the founding leaders who shaped SAKK as a disciplined and value-based platform for students. He urged present-day students to uphold integrity, unity and the legacy of service.
Angami Students’ Union President Diezevisie Nakhro, extending greetings, acknowledged the contribution of Sümi Aphuyemi villages in building Kohima town, citing their strong community spirit and voluntary labour in road and infrastructure development despite hardships. He expressed hope that SAKK would continue to serve and strengthen collective progress in the years ahead.
