The Multi-purpose Hall at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex was jam-packed as Sakutemjen Memorial Club (SMC) of Chungtiayimsen defeated Tongden Club ‘A’ Chungtia at the final of the 12th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2017.
The tournament, regarded as the biggest volleyball tournament in Mokokchung, began on September 26 last with 17 teams in the fray. It also had a team each from Tuensang, Zunheboto and Peren.
In the first semi-final match, SMC defeated strong title contenders Mangkolemba Sporting Club to set the date with Tongden Club ‘A’, who beat a promising team from Akuluto, the Young Stallone Club.
A defiant Tongden Club put up a gallant fight but the pre-tournament favourites from Chungtiayimsen won the high adrenaline final in straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-17).
The tournament was organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association with I.Meyionen, Director & DIG, Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Nagaland gracing the closing function as chief guest.
