Sale of fresh local fish in Tuensang

Tuensang, July 13 (MExN): The opening programme for sale of fresh local fish at Tuensang Town initiated by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was held at the market place in Tuensang on July 13. The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha.

While briefing the farmers, District Fisheries Officer, Tuensang, Rongsenkumzuk stated that the sale of fresh local fish is an encouragement to farmers for mass production of fish and it will also help to avoid import from outside the state.

“Most importantly, such a programme helps to channelize fish farming and its sellers and consumers within the district,” he was quoted as saying in a DIPR report. Rongsenkumzuk further stated that farmers have potential for sufficient fish supply, but they are farming only for self-consumption during festival seasons.

The main objective of such a programme, he added, is to encourage commercial farming in the near future. The sale will be carried out every Friday in the next three months, it was informed.
