SAMETI conduct training on ‘soil health management’

Medziphema, June 20 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland organised a training programme on ‘soil health management’ from June 16 to 18 at SAMETI, Medziphema.

The training was aimed at preparing ATMA functionaries from all districts with knowledge about soil health for assisting the farming community in achieving sustainable agriculture.  

The resource persons for the training programme were Temsuinla, Agriculture Chemist, Agriculture Chemistry Laboratory; Dr. Imtionen, AO, Bio-Control Laboratory; Mhonchumo Lotha, AO, Bio-Fertilizer Laboratory and Z. James Kikon, SMS (Soil Science) KVK Dimapur.  

Detailed theoretical and practical sessions were imparted on Bio Fertilizer and its uses in Agriculture, Vermi Compost Technology for Sustainable Agriculture, Soil testing and its importance in agriculture, Methods of soil sample collection, Importance of Integrated Nutrient Management and Soil Health Management & Soil Health Card. The trainees also visited Bio-Fertilizer, Bio-Control and Agriculture Chemistry Laboratory for getting a firsthand experience on the said topics.  

The valedictory function was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI while feedback from the trainees was given by Bendangkumzuk Walling and Meciesunu Sakhrie, ATM Longleng and Dimapur, respectively. Z. James Kikon, SMS (Soil Science) KVK Dimapur in his valedictory address encouraged the functionaries to rededicate themselves to the farmers and give their best service and efforts to the farming community. Finally the programme ended with a vote of thanks from Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI.
