SAMETI conducts training on professional skills

DIMAPUR, MARCH 16 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised a four-day training programme for agriculture and allied officers on “Professional Skills for Extension Officers/Functionaries” from March 10 to 13.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Deputy Project Director, SAMETI, Akam Zeliang.

Director SAMETI and Principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, in the inaugural address spoke on the need for effective technology dissemination through soft skills to successfully reach grassroots-level targets. Shuya stated that extension officers must acquire professional skills in addition to technical skills.

Resource persons for the training included Rajumoni Bordoloi, Director, Extension Education Institute (EEI) NER, Guwahati; S Borua, Faculty, EEI NER Guwahati; Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Agricultural Extension, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema; Marneni Divya Sree, SMS, KVK Dimapur; and Deepa Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Department of Rural Development, SAS, Nagaland University.

Topics covered during the training included orientation on soft and professional skills, participatory extension approaches, delegation skills, time and team management, social media use and management, presentation skills and audio-visuals, training methodology and management, liaisoning with stakeholders in agricultural extension, and documentation and reporting skills. Participants also undertook a field visit to the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) and its farm.

The valedictory programme was chaired by S Borua, Faculty, EEI NER. The valedictory address was delivered by Rajumoni Bordoloi, Director, EEI NE Region. Deputy Project Director, SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar delivered the vote of thanks, while feedback on the training programme was shared by the participants.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the trainees. A total of 20 officers from the Agriculture Department attended the training, along with three officers each from Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences, Soil & Water Conservation and the Horticulture Department, and two officers each from the Land Resources Department and Fisheries Department.
