SAMETI office cum training hall inaugurated at Medziphema

Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): The SAMETI office cum training hall was inaugurated at Medziphema on August 5, 2011 by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Chumben Murry. The inaugural function was attended by host of Officers from Agri and allied departments, SASRD, ICAR, CIH, KVKs, ATMA functionaries and public leaders of Medziphema.
A press note issued by A.Y.Ovung, Director of Agriculture, & SNO, ATMA, Nagaland stated that APC & Chairman, IDWG (ATMA), H.K.Khulu chaired the inaugural function and welcomed all the participants. The APC & chairman further stated that ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) is one of the most successful programs implemented in the country by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
The chief guest Dr. Chumben Murry in his speech lauded the department for completing the construction of the SAMETI building within a short time with limited funds and other constraints. He urged all the institutions like SASRD, ICARs, KVKs and the departments to co-ordinate their activities in order to achieve a better economic level of agricultural growth. Further, he stressed the need to motivate the farmers of the state to adopt modern technology so as to realize its potential and that more thrust is given to traditional crops for preservation. He stated that a feasible solution to reduce jhumming is to opt for a settled agriculture and encouraged to give importance to crops like Kholar, Turmeric, Large cardamom, and exotic rice for commercialization.
The slogan for the extension field Officers is to go to the villages sincerely and suggested to provide incentives to the field functionaries and awards to the best performing functionaries. The chief guest later handed over leaflets on “Johari Window” and urged the participants to read in order to improve personnel communication and relationship with others.
The Director of Agriculture & SNO, ATMA,. A.Y.Ovung in his speech appealed to all the line departments to utilize the SAMETI building for trainings and asked the Principal, IETC, Medziphema to take good care of the building even in the future. Rokonicha Kuotsü, ex-minister also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the department not to ignore the local populace. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Lanupokyim, Principal, IETC, Medziphema.
