After two months of various activities with 26 students known as Jagrik volunteers from North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Samvidhan LIVE – The Jagrik Project culminated on Monday at the DBIDL hall, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
During the campaign, the students spent night at a homeless shelter, organized a health camp, reversed gender roles to experience the other, spent time with religious leaders to understand and experience the freedom of religion and many other activities.
Guest Speaker, Dr. Fr. CP Anto, Director of Peace Channel & Principal NEISSR, who described the students as “Jagrik heroes”, encouraged them to understand that there was a greater level of “transcendent” which he added was being a “human being.”
“Once we move out of the clans and individualistic idols and move to a greater level called human beings then we can get out of predicament,” he stated.
Even as the youth today have so much freedom and live in a democratic way, he said, there was still the “Dilemma of predicament.” He further pointed out that although there are many educated people, yet they still do not know their fundamental rights and duties.
Anto stressed on how the rights of many were under threat especially for those who speak the truth and stand up. “Struggles are inevitable but jumping into situations with understanding and proper preparations, one will see the difference,” he added.
He lauded the Jagriks stating that they have made a difference and made “us to think differently”. “To think differently is to be fearless,” Anto maintained.
Jagrik volunteers also shared their experiences of the last two months. Out of the 26 volunteers, two have been selected to go to New Delhi for the national celebration event where different organizations from 14 states are taking part.
The Jagrik Project is a nation-wide initiative anchored by a Delhi based organisation Com-Mutiny the Youth Collective (CYC) involving young people in the practical field of constitutional fundamental rights and duties with various tasks given during the campaign process. Its main objective is to make young people aware of their fundamental rights and duties as citizens of India.
