Sao Chang College hosts webinar on ‘career counselling’

Tuensang, May 22 (MExN): Sao Chang College, Tuensang hosted a one day webinar on ‘career counselling’ for the outgoing students with Samuel Vaiphei (IRS), Deputy Director, Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Siliguri Zonal Unit, West Bengal and Hotoni Yeptho, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Sao Chang College as the resource persons on May 21.

The webinar was organised by the Career Guidance Committee, Sao Chang College with the aim to equip the students with broader knowledge and understanding about career prospects in different fields as they venture further in life, stated a press release from Media Cell Sao Chang College, Tuensang. 

Samuel Vaiphei spoke on the topic ‘career prospects in civil services.’ He began by giving a brief historical background on how civil services in India were introduced by the British, in order to administer law and order in the country. He introduced different administrative services and also gave brief description about the work culture associated with each respective service both in the central and state level.

He reiterated on the importance of inculcating the ‘spirit of curiosity’ among the students and further encouraged the students not to neglect their undergraduate studies but develop deep interest in their respective subject. He challenged the students to see the civil services not just as a means of earning but execute the responsibility with absolute honesty and not to compromise their integrity. 

Hotoni Yeptho presented on the topic ‘Institutions offering Master’s degree.’ She highlighted the participants regarding different Institutions within and outside Nagaland, offering Master’s Program in different disciplines. She also shared the necessary information such as the eligibility criteria and fee structures of each institute.

The webinar was moderated by Dr Shokip Tumtin, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Chemistry and a welcome address was delivered by N Tekameren, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Vidila Jing, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
