A view of Pfutsero where many organisations are opposing the proposed set-up of an IAF Radar System.
DIMAPUR, May 8 (MExN): The Secheku Area Public Organization (SAPO), representing all three ranges under the area, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed installation of a Radar System at Pfutsero Town.
In a press release, SAPO stated that it extends “full support and solidarity” to the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) in raising concerns over the project.
“After careful consideration and consultation, the organization feels that the installation of the Radar System is not in the best interest of the local and surrounding villages,” the release stated.
SAPO maintained that the proposed project could have “potential risks and long-term implications” that may negatively impact the livelihood, environment, and overall well-being of the people in the area.
The organization further noted that Pfutsero and adjoining regions are known for their peaceful environment, dependence on agriculture, and growing importance as a residential and educational hub. “Any development that may threaten these aspects must be reconsidered with utmost caution,” it stated.
Emphasising the need for public participation in developmental initiatives, SAPO said, “The voice of the people must be respected in all developmental initiatives.” It urged the concerned authorities to reconsider the decision and engage in transparent dialogue with all stakeholders before proceeding further.
SAPO also reiterated that all three ranges stand united on the issue and would continue to extend “unwavering support” to the CPO in safeguarding the interests and rights of the people.
The organization further called upon the Government and concerned agencies “to take into account the sentiments and concerns of the public and to prioritize people-centric development.”
