The Nagaland Cricket Association’s 2nd Edition of the Women’s Champions Trophy 2023 culminated on June 10 at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima. 

At the final match, Japfu Dazzlers (Red) faced off against Saramati Warriors (Orange) in a shortened 10 over match due to the onset of heavy rain which delayed the overall final event. 

In the first innings, the Warriors put up an impressive 71 runs out of 10 overs for 2 wickets taken by the Dazzlers. Chasing a target of 71 runs set by the Warriors, the Dazzlers were at 29 runs in the first 5 overs. 

However by the end of 10 overs, the Dazzlers had only managed to garner 57 runs with 8 wickets taken by the Warriors who won by 11 runs. 

At the closing ceremony, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, who was invited as the chief guest viewed that the scope of cricket is immense. “For Nagaland, the game was still in an initial stage and we have a long way to go,” she said. Nevertheless with the contributions made by the government and being registered with the BCCI has opened up many opportunities for Nagaland, she added. 

Kruse said that for the first time in Indian history, the Women’s Premier League was organized by the BCCI this year.

“Nagaland on the other hand has also started the women’s cricket tournament and for this, I will like to thank the Nagaland Cricket Association for ‘Breaking the Barriers’ for women in sports by organizing another sports i.e Cricket for Naga women,” she conveyed. 

“With this 2nd edition of Women’s Cricket Tournament, I believe that the spirit in sports of our Naga girls will be lifted higher. Many Naga women today have come out of their comfort zones and participated and achieved prizes/medals in different games not only for our State but also for our Nation. I hope to see in future many of you shinning and making your names in the field of Cricket and making it as your Profession,” she added.

Ahidur Rahman, Convenor of Tournament Subcommittee while giving the report of the tournament highlighted that this year saw a registration of 64 players divided into 6 teams. Four of the matches were abandoned due to unforeseen weather conditions. Total number of runs 2300 runs. 

“This tournament has come to a conclusion with the hope that more tournaments are hosted in the future for female players including the construction of more practice pitches,” he stated.

• Best Bowler- Alemienla (Japfü Dazzlers)
• Best Batter- Sentilemla Imsong (Tiyi Strikers)
• Best Wicket keeper- Iluneule (Puliebadze Slingers)
• Player of the Final Match- Sariba (Saramati Warriors)
• Player of the Tournament- Alemienla (Japfü Dazzlers)
