Medziphema, October 29 (MExN): Students of NU: SASRD placed under RAWEP (Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme) in six villages of Pfutsero block, Phek district conducted second phase of agri-demonstrations in Lasumi, Zapami and Kami villages on October 26 and in Lekromi, Pfutseromi and Kikruma villages on October 27.
A press release informed that demonstrations were conducted on creating awareness and skill training for adoption of scientific methods of farming, integrated farming system, insect pest management using organic pesticides, soil conservation methods, alternate land management systems, marketing, improved storage practices, improved methods of livestock production and health care.
The programme was attended by the village council members, host farmers, SHGs, farm women, village elders as well as youths.
Dean NU: SASRD, Prof. R C Gupta interacted with the villagers in Lasumi and Zapami villages and expressed happiness over smooth conduct of RAWE programme. He also made an appeal to the villagers for preserving indigenous knowledge and blending with improved agricultural practices demonstrated during the programme. He also thanked the villagers for accommodating and providing excellent hospitality to the students.
RAWEP coordinator Dr. K. K. Jha encouraged the farmers for adoption of improved agri-technologies and assured for possible follow up technical support from SASRD. He thanked the villagers and state officials from department of agriculture for their constant support for successful implementation of RAWE programme. He also lauded the efforts of students and congratulated them for successful completion of the demonstrations.
Heweto Sema DAO Phek, appreciated the villagers for their keen interest in learning new and improved methods of farming. SDAO Pfutsero, Imti was also present during the demonstration. The subject experts included Dr. Razouneinuo Zuyi, Dr. Pankaj Neog, Dr. R Nakhro, Dr. A. P. Singh and Rizong from NU: SASRD.
