SASU calls to preserve, conserve & reserve community owned forests

Observing the growing concerns on environmental issues globally, the Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU) has made noted that it is crucial to protect, preserve and realize the importance of the nature around us. 

Taking a call to preserve its community owned forest- Kezoltsa and Dzükou, the SASU during the observation of its 75 years anniversary, held from January 8 to 10, 2025 submitted its pledge to its parent body, Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) and its Inaugural guest, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, on January 8. 

In its pledge, observed that the Southern Angami Region is blessed with luscious forest, “a region with indescribable nature’s beauty and the most authentic wealth we never really realized.” 

It said that Kezolta and Dzükou are community owned forest with one being known for its outrageous resources and the later with an unimaginable beauty that the world admires. The SASU said that with the growing concern on environmental issues globally, the need to protect, preserve and realize the importance of our nature is crucial. 

While economic development and advancement is important, the future effect of global warming cannot be sacrificed calling to let us look beyond our generation while we make policies. Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) being the most prudent and the biggest custodian of our region and its people, owes our greatest respect and we congratulate your esteemed organization for always being sensible towards caring for our environment, it said. 

The union said that it was important to collectively be prudent towards our nature while we seek for any developmental activities. 

At the jubilee, the SASU along with all the federating units pledged to SAPO to “Preserve, Conserve and Reserve Kezoltsa and Dzükou for the future generation to inhale good air and drink fresh water,” adding that it is with ‘good will and hope.’
