SASU to verify ILP documents

Kiphire, August 28 (MExN): The Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) will be carrying out ILP checking within its jurisdiction, particularly taking into consideration the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

In a press release today issued by SASU President K Chumseli Anar and General Secretary Holise Sangtam said in order to “segregate genuine Indian citizens from the illegal immigrants,” the SASU informed that student volunteers will be assigned to verify documents of non-locals “at any time and at any place within its jurisdiction.”

It therefore, directed ILP holders to carry along with them their ILP and other relevant documents like electoral ID Card and Aadhaar Card. “In the process of verification of ILP and other related documents, the defaulters who are not able to produce the documents will be considered as illegal immigrants and the defaulters will be handed over to the district administration and Police or will be dealt with stern action as deemed fit by the union,” it further stated.

The SASU also asked the public to support and extend full co-operation to the union “as the current issue is a common concern faced by the public."
