Barely a few days after the Dzükou Valley fire was brought under control, the Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has filed a First Information Report (FIR) alleging that some youths perpetrated the fire in the valley.

In a written complaint lodged at Khuzama Police Station on January 12, the organization claimed that, on the afternoon of December 29, a group of 21 boys and girls (youths) were seen returning from Dzükou valley, soon after which the fire broke out. It is suspected to be burnt by this group of youth who were last seen in the valley, it said.

The organization stated that in spite of the prohibitionary notification issued by the SAYO on March 15, 2020, the group “illegally entered and trespassed into the valley” without its knowledge.

The parent youth body of the Southern Angami region demanded an investigation into the case and for legal action to be taken against the 'trespassers’.

The organization further demanded an investigation into the cause of outbreak of the fire. The SAYO also included a video clip along with the FIR.

The fire that started on December 29 in the Dzükou Valley continued to burn for 13 days devastating vegetation and wildlife in the area.
