SAYO lifts restriction over NH-2 Kohima-Mao Road for 5 days

Kohima, OCtober 24 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has agreed to suspend restriction on movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles beyond 3 axles plying over National Highway 2 Kohima-Mao Road for 5 days with effect from October 23, 6:00 PM.

This was agreed during a meeting convened on October 23 at Deputy Commissioner's Office Chamber Kohima to discuss the restrictions.

This agreement was met in view of the state government agreeing to notify Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to expedite expansion of sanctioned NH-02 along Kohima-Mao Road. It also agreed to take up request for restricting vehicles with more than 3 axles from plying till two lane up-gradation is completed.

Also, considering the fact that 90% of the vehicles plying over NH-02 are Manipur bound vehicles and the intermediate road is unsafe for vehicles above 3 axles, SAYO also requested state government to explore collaborating with State Government of Manipur in pursuing up-gradation of existing NH 2 for the larger interest of both states.

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima earlier briefed the house on the socio-economic importance of NH-02 which not only serves the State but also to neighboring State Manipur and beyond. He also added that most essential commodities are transported via Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV). And with the restrictions imposed, many HMVs beyond 3 axles are stranded on NH-29 Kohima-Dimapur 4 Lane Road which has also adversely affected the highway traffic causing inconvenience to travelers.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Kohima and attended by Revenue Officer, Kohima, Southern Angami Public Organization (SAP0) and SAYO.
