The Sumi Baptist Church Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SBAK) Nito Mount conducted a plantation care and cleanliness drive along the stretch from Zunheboto to Satakha, with the aim of cleaning and nurturing the saplings planted earlier this year.

The drive focused on the plants that were planted on June 5, in observance of World Environment Day, an initiative undertaken by the Sumi Youth Organisation (SYO) in collaboration with the District Forest Office Zunheboto.

Delivering a short speech during the programme, Rev. Kughato Chophi, Executive Secretary, SBAK Nito Mount, stressed that the purpose of the initiative was to ensure the proper care of the saplings.

“While travelling along the road, we noticed that many of the planted saplings had been left unattended. We approached the Sumi Youth Organisation and decided to organise this programme to take responsibility and nurture the plants," he said. "We will be cleaning the areas from Zunheboto to Satakha ensuring that the plants are protected and cared for.”

Rev Chophi further informed that the team has been divided into four groups, named Strong, Unity, Love, and Trust each assigned to clean specific areas along the route.

He added, “Let this initiative be an example to others bringing glory to God’s creation and inspire people to come forward and engage in such meaningful activities.”

As part of the drive, the groups will identify living saplings, clean their surroundings, and build protective boundaries around them to ensure their survival and growth.
