Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): The Department of Public Health and Engineering (PHED), Nagaland launched the Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) tools for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) IEC activities on April 12. 

A press release received here stated that the tools were launched in the presence of E Mhonbemo Patton, Principal Secretary to Government of Nagaland, PHED and Thsathrichem Sangtam, Chief Engineer, Sanitation & WSSO, PHED at the 4th State Level Co-ordination Committee meeting with the State Implementing Support Agency (ISA) North-East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA). The SBCC strategy and tools has been conceptualised and designed based on consultative meetings with various stakeholders and research study. The six posters in English and six local languages, three animated videos in Nagamese developed by the State ISA NEIDA was launched for capacity building and SBCC campaigns.

The release stated that community is a key and active stakeholder of the Jal Jeevan Mission at all stages of planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of the in-village water supply systems including drinking water sources. 

JJM not only aims at providing FHTC to every rural household but also aims to create awareness about water source protection, judicious utilization of water, importance of safe water, waste management, gender inclusion, significance of water service fees collection for operation and maintenance, etc.  

Therefore, it focuses on encouraging community participation and ownership of the scheme at all stages to ensure sustainability of the water supply management in the villages, it added.
