
Zunheboto, June 3 (DIPR): After more than fifteen years, SBI Aghunato was formally inaugurated in Aghunato Town by AGM SBI Mokokchung Gnanaseker G and graced by Parliamentary Secretary for Soil and Water Conservation, Pukhayi Sümi in Aghunato Town on May 31.
Pukhayi Sümi in his greetings and keynote address said, “Today is a historic moment in Aghunato Town and our collective efforts from all corners made this long awaited dream a reality against all odds.”
While highlighting the main cause of the SBI Aghunato Branch closure, Pukhayi lamented that, “the infamous ambush and looting the cash by some NPG and party (s) in late 1990s, which also claimed some security life (s), was one of the main reasons which led to the disclosure of the bank.”
He also stated that since 2009, he himself and various others toiled to bring back the bank active was finally achieved; and maintained that the sincere prayers and tears of the public was addressed for which he urged the same to continue praying without ceasing for upcoming developments and progress in Aghunato Town.
He cited that, “Aghunato Town was the first place and center of affairs and governance amongst Sümi land and community, but was shifted to Zunheboto for the conveniences and other technical circumstances.” While lauding and extending gratitude to the Aghunato area community Pukhayi exhorted that ‘the four parliamentarians in total including a cabinet minister had its roots and son of Aghunato area soil.’ Therefore, he urged the gathering to keep up the faith and spirit.
“The bank belongs to us, therefore we should extend collective support and cooperation from each one of us,” said Pukhayi while urging thousands of employees in Aghunato are to transfer their accounts to keep up the smooth functioning and sustenance of the Branch.
Pukhayi further exhorted and cautioned the public of the area to fight in unison against ill elements and obstacles confronting the Banking systems.
“Now, with the presence and reopening of the bank we can easily proceed to bring HSLC center here in Aghunato town too,” while dwelling on the upcoming upgradation, developmental activities and progress in various spheres.
He assured that the separate sub-treasury for Aghunato will be established very soon. He concluded by requesting all public, Kükami/GBs, village councils and gathering to “Bridge the gap” and be the “ambassadors” for the unity and coordination amongst top leaders and parliamentarians, instead of division, creating disunity and misunderstanding.
AGM SBI Mokokchung Gnanaseker G in his brief keynote address lauded the individuals and all concerned groups for the support and cooperation in reopening of its Branch after more than one and a half decades.
“Bank is now a basic necessity after two daily meals and roof shelter in our contemporary global society,” AGM said while adding, “the collective coordination and solidarity from all the concerned public, NGOs and costumers and clients will play a crucial role in keeping the bank active and functional.” He concluded by giving few tips and highlights of the loan and other banking schemes.
A Naga News report stated that after the inauguration and ribbon cutting, a grand reopening ceremony programme followed up, where various leaders, bank officials, district administration ADC Zunheboto Amen Imchen and Sümi Hoho (SH) president Toniho Yepthomi also addressed the gathering respectively.
Hundreds of dignitaries including, AGM Mokokchung and colleagues, SBI Zunheboto Branch staff; ADC Aghunato; SH president; SKH/GBs; student unions; village council leaders; DSCO Zunheboto; SDPO Zunheboto; parliamentary secretary’s entourage, Aghunato Subdivision head of departments and several others attended the historic reopening ceremony programme .
